An executive committee is elected by the general assembly. The districts have their own elections and are represented in the National General Assembly.
AWMR is officially registered and recognized as Nepal’s national umbrella organization for the care, education, training and rehabilitation of people with mental retardation.
Parents groups are established at districts and national level to receive training and supports as well as to advise the policy makers, classroom teachers, to assist in fund-raising and community awareness programs.
The association’s plan of work and financial expenditure are periodically evaluated by social welfare council.
